While we will do everything possible to ensure a scheduled course proceeds as planned, sometimes there is not enough interest to sustain a course. As a result, we have introduced a requirement of a minimum enrollment of at least six participants in order to conduct any public course produced by Applied Frameworks. We take our responsibility to provide the very best training experiences seriously and have found that when there are less than six participants in a course, there are not enough people to provide for a rich interaction between the learners, a diversity of perspectives, and allow the course discussions to be viable.
If you have any concerns regarding this policy, it is in your best interest to do the following:
- Enroll early: we offer a significant discount for early enrollments since early enrollments are a signal that participants want a course to happen in their community.
- Encourage friends, peers and colleagues to take the course with you: multiple enrollments from the same company will receive a generous discount and word-of-mouth referrals that result in an enrollment receive an Amazon.com gift card.
- Contact us: ten to seven days before the scheduled course date, we review the enrollment numbers and make a decision about whether to proceed with the course or reschedule.
If we cancel your course, you will be offered an opportunity to transfer to a future public course or receive a full refund within ten business days.
In order to receive a refund of your tuition for a public training class, you must notify us no later than five business days prior to the class start date. Cancellation requests received after the five business day window will be issued a credit that can be applied toward a future class.
You will not need a computer for this class. However, most people like to bring their laptops (or tablets) in order to check emails, surf the net and stay connected during breaks and at lunch.
Most of our training classes are held at facilities where parking is free and plentiful. From time-to-time, we host courses at locations which have paid parking. If parking fees are required, it will be the student’s responsibility to pay for them. We will notify you in our pre-course email if parking fees are required.
Expect to participate in a variety of simulations, discussions and other hands-on activities to help you learn more about Scrum and Agile. All our instructors place a heavy emphasis on creating a respectful classroom environment where you can share your experiences and learn from others.
From time-to-time, we may ask you to get out of your seat and work in small group exercises, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and sensible shoes. If you are a person who is frequently cold, please bring a sweater or a light jacket.
For most classes, we offer all-day beverage service of sodas, water and coffee. In the afternoon, we offer a light refreshment. On the first day of the course, a gift card will be provided to each student to allow them to purchase lunch each day off-site.
Most classroom trainings have no prerequisites. If you already have some knowledge about the topic (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe®, etc.), either by reading an introductory book or previous work experience, that is great news!
Absolutely, most of our students have no problem passing any of the certification exams associated with our certification courses!
No. At the conclusion of our workshops we find that most learners are full up with new knowledge, so they tend to be too fatigued to successfully take an exam.
- Scrum certifications: the Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM) exam is an online test that can be taken at a time and place convenient for you after the completion of your course. The CSM exam is timed to one hour, you have thirty days to start it and is open book, open Internet. At this time, there is no exam for the Certified Scrum Product Owner® certification.
- SAFe certifications: all SAFe certification exams are online tests that can be taken at a time and place convenient for you after the completion of your course. In general, SAFe exams are timed to one hour, you have thirty days to begin them and are open book, open Internet.
- Kanban certifications: at present, there are no exams for any Kanban certifications we offer. All you need to do is attend the course and participate in the various activities and discussions.
After successfully completing your course and then passing your exam, you will download your course certification from the organization that certified you – the Scrum Alliance®, Scaled Agile®, Lean Kanban University®, etc. The instructions on how to download your certification can be found on their sites.
In general, one hour spent in the classroom is equivalent to one Professional Development Units (PDU) with the Project Management Institute (PMI). Since Applied Frameworks is NOT a PMI Registered Education Provider (REP), you will have to apply for and claim your credits through the PMI Continuous Certification Requirement System (CCRS).
After you log into the PMI.org website, go to the “Report PDU” subsection, choose “Course or Training” as your PDU Category. In the form, you need to indicate a split for the PDU earned in our course across multiple categories. We recommend the following distribution depending on the type of certification you received from us.
- Scrum certifications: during our CSM and CSPO classes we spend a total fourteen contact hours over two days discussing a variety of software project management practices covered by the Scrum framework. This allows you to claim fourteen PDU for the course and also qualifies as fourteen of the required twenty-one contact hours necessary to qualify as a candidate for the PMI-ACP test.

Scrum Educational Units (SEU) are only relevant for maintaining your existing certifications with the Scrum Alliance. Our CSM and CSPO courses allow students to claim fourteen SEU towards maintaining your CSM, CSPO or your Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) designations.
